WALLINGFORD, CT--This Saturday, Choate hosted its annual invitational squash tournament. The top five players from Milton Academy, Episcopal School, The Taft School, and Deerfield Academy all came to play in a round-robin style competition.Although all the teams played well, the Taft boys' squad emerged undefeated to claim the unofficial first prize. However, the Choate team improved significantly from its lackluster performance on Wednesday, with Chris Miller '01 and Kevin McCarthy '00 winning the third and fifth rank matches against Taft. The team also defeated Milton 4-1 and Episcopal 3-2. Finally, after playing intermittently for seven hours, the weary players squared offagainst Deerfield's elite to vie for second place. Despite losses at the first and third ladder rungs, the Choate players carried the day with a grueling 3-2 victory. Although the whole team showed great improvement and dedication, Kevin McCarthy '00 deserves special mention. He was the only player, from any school, to win every game he played; in fact, he gave up only thirty points in twelve games.
